Harolld J. Stahle, Jr. (a/k/a “Bill”), 90, of Messiah Lifeways Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg died peacefully at Holy Spirit Hospital, Tuesday, October 25, 2016.
Harolld was born September 8, 1926, to the late Harolld J. Stahle, Sr. and Florence Ruth (Goodyear) Stahle. His loving wife, Betty J. (Apple) Stahle, predeceased him in death. Harolld lived in New Cumberland most of his life. He graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1944; attended Central Penn during his high school years; entered the U.S. Navy in November 1944 (a WWII veteran); graduated from Lafayette College in 1951 with a B.S. in Engineering; and, worked for AMP Inc his entire career. Harolld enjoyed many activities and was a member of many organizations. To mention a few, Harolld was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Cumberland; a lifelong member of the National Model Railroad Association; a charter member of the Keystone Model Railroad Historical Society; a member of the West Shore Lodge No. 681, F&AM, Camp Hill, Harrisburg Consistory and York Rite; Royal Order of Scotland, Edinburg, Scotland; former board member of Cumberland County Shrine Club and Past President of the Zembo Luncheon Club; a member of the U.S. Navy League; Past President of Engineers Society of PA; Past President of the Central PA Chapter of Lafayette College Alumni Assn; Former Chairman of the Residents’ Council at Messiah Village; a member of Messiah’s Singing Men and Chapel Choir; a former member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Choir; and, former member of various other signing groups.
All those who knew Harolld knew he had an unbridled passion for trains, model railroading, music, and good food. He loved animals, and would never fail to inquire as to the well being of his friends’ pets. He had a wonderful mind to the end, and enjoyed sharing his wisdom and experiences with many of us.
Harolld is survived by step-brothers Lawrence Holliday and Noel Holliday; extended family in Georgia; and, by close friends, Nancy Wambach, Margaret Burlew and Stephanie Kleinfelter, who have been his support for many years.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until memorial services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2016 at Messiah Lifeways Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America (1 Baden Powell Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055); to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (530 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070) or, to Messiah Lifeways Employees’ Christmas Fund (100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055).
