Hazel Bernice Hemke Hunn, (100) of The Woods at Cedar Run, Camp Hill, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, Susquehanna Twp. Her death came 4 days after she turned 100 years of age.
She was born January 18, 1913 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Fred and Ida (Klug) Hemke. Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles E. Hunn, whom she married on May 8, 1937.
Hazel will be deeply missed by family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia A. Sell of Harrisburg, and Charlene Constantini of Fort Lauderdale, FL; five grandchildren, Kimberly Hutnik, Nathanial Sell, Scott Foster, Tim Foster, and Cindy Streifel; eleven great-grandchildren, Hazel, Rowynn, Alexa, Kelly, Griffin, Amanda, Sarah, Elizabeth, Connor, Colton, and Cami; and a nephew, Dr. Frederick Hemke.
Hazel was a retired elementary teacher with the Milwaukee Public Schools. She started school at the age of three and graduated from Bay View High School at sixteen. She was active in sports and was a Physical Education Major at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse where she played Lacrosse and Field Hockey. Hazel was the first in her family to graduate from college and the first to reach 100 years of age.
Her passions were her family, traveling, gardening, bird watching, doing cross stitch, playing bridge, discussing current eventsand reading. For 11 years, she devoted many volunteer hours at the Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, WI.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Friday, February 1 at The Woods at Cedar Run, 824 Lisburn Road, Camp Hill.
