Hilda Marie (Morris) Nissel

April 9, 1932 — December 12, 2021

Hilda Marie (Morris) Nissel, 89, of New Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital, Colonial Park. She was the daughter of the late Sylvis H. Morris and Sabina (Schirf) Morris/Dillon, born on April 9, 1932 in Nicktown, Cambria County.

She was a 1950 graduate of Harrisburg Catholic High, and a longtime parishioner at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland; her family began attending when they moved to town in 1962. Hilda was a member of the church’s Little Flower Social Club, the VFW Post 7415 Auxiliary, and the American Legion Post 143 Auxiliary. She was the unofficial “family photographer,” requiring a family portrait before meals were served or presents were opened. She enjoyed compiling photo albums, but this paled in comparison to her love for sweets – especially chocolate! She was a homemaker for all her years, but later in life took up part-time work at Penn National Race Track (alongside her husband), working the late day shift at the ticket window. She loved her grandchildren, and nothing gave her a bigger thrill than family gatherings or annual Christmas parties. When the family was together, Hilda was happiest. She spoiled her grandchildren with ice cream for breakfast, and she will be greatly missed by her grand-dogs, especially Gracie.

Hilda leaves behind her children, Patricia M. Strickler (Lynn) of Mechanicsburg, Ruth A. Roller (Frederick) of Wormleysburg, William G. Nissel (Sharon) of Summerdale, Richard L. Nissel (Michele) of New Cumberland, and Ronald L. Nissel (Kimberly) of Lewisberry; grandchildren, Bobby, Cheri, Laurie, Marianne, Patrick, Michael, Melissa, Mark, Megan, and Shannon; great-grandchildren, Emma, Camryn, Connor, Gracyn, Emmett, Mackenzie, Diamond, Klayton, Emalee, Lily, Hailey, and Connor; siblings, Betty Kirsch, Ronald Morris, Herman Morris, Robert Dillon, Joanne Gaston, and Steven Dillon; and countless nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William Patrick Nissel; and siblings, Shirley Fry, Leona Wirfel, and Donna Weaver.

A public viewing will be held from 10-11AM on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
