Hobart Allen "Hobie" Snell

Hobart Allen "Hobie" Snell, 84, a lifelong resident of New Cumberland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
Born on May 3, 1934, in New Cumberland, he was the son of the late Hobart R. and Ruth (Zimmerman) Snell. He was also preceded in death by brothers Samuel R. and Donald R. Snell.
He retired as a Food Broker and Sales Representative for Dreisbach Specialties Company; a veteran of the PA National Guard having served six years as SGT FC; formerly served as an officer on the New Cumberland Borough Police Force for ten years; a 1953 graduate of the former New Cumberland High School. He served as president of the former Elkwood Fire Co. and was instrumental in merging the Elkwood Fire Co. and the Citizens Fire Company together into the current New Cumberland Fire Dept. where he was elected as the first president and was a life member. Hobie was a life member of Tri-County Lodge #76, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Cumberland County Volunteer Fireman’s Assn. He was a member of New Life Church where he served as a teacher and a deacon.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann Holler Snell; two daughters and their husbands, Diane B. and Marty L. Schoffstall of Harrisburg, Jan M. and Darryl E. Byers of Crimora, VA; a son and his wife, Scott A. and Betsy Snell of Hummelstown; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Hillary, Michael, Greta, Anthony, Zachary, and Olivia; seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at New Life Church, New Cumberland, with the Pastor Ronnie G. Riggins officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Gardens, Lower Allen Twp.
Viewing will be held 6 – 8 PM Wednesday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
