Irene Marie (Thomas) Mccall

Irene Marie (Thomas) McCall, 96, formerly of Springfield, PA and Burlington, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 in her home in New Cumberland, PA surrounded by her family.

Born on February 24, 1925 in Burlington, NJ, Mrs. McCall was the daughter of the late William V. and Irene (Rekaszys) Thomas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles W. McCall, by her siblings Arthur (Helen), Richard (Angela), William (Eleanor), Edwin (Kathleen), Wanda Huminski (Frank), and Isabel Brennan (Michael).

A 1942 graduate of Burlington High School, Burlington, NJ, Mrs. McCall attended Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing from where she graduated in l945. Mrs. McCall’s professional career as a registered nurse was a great source of pride and fulfillment for her. Following graduation from Hahnemann, Mrs. McCall was a member of its cardiovascular team led by the eminent Charles P. Bailey, MD, innovator in heart surgery. Subsequently she worked at Delaware County Memorial Hospital and at Haverford Community Hospital where she was Head Nurse for several years prior to retirement in 1987.

Following retirement, she volunteered at Good Shepherd School and embroidered Baptismal vests for Good Shepherd Church. She was a long-time member of Saint Theresa of the Infant Jesus parish and for many years faithfully attended weekly adoration. She found great joy in her family, especially her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children, Irene Asken (Michael) of Camp Hill, PA, Charles (Elizabeth) of Lawrenceville, NJ, Michael (Cheryl) of Cumberland, ME and Charlene Jackson (George) of Shamong, NJ, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday, June 10, 2021 in St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA at the convenience of the family.
