Isabel G. Lewis

Isabel Gladys Lewis, “Isy”, 93, a resident of Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg, PA passed away Saturday, 28 September 2024. Isy was born in Karthaus, Clearfield County, PA, the youngest child of Clair E. and Virginia K. Reiter (Lucas). Preceding her in death was her eldest brother Edward N. Reiter, Theodore C. Reiter, and sister June E. Teats. 

 As a teenager, she spent many summers helping at her grandmother and uncle’s farm in Pottersdale, PA which she often fondly recalled in conversations. In the early 1950’s Isy left Karthaus for Harrisburg, and worked at the former Davenport’s Restaurant where she met her late friend Helen Miller whom she knew over 50 years. In 1958, Isy married the late William E. Lewis, and later resided in New Cumberland, PA for 47 years. As a homemaker, she enjoyed plants—especially violets, geraniums, and roses, heirloom porcelain teapots and taking care of her children and family needs. In her younger days, she enjoyed listening to country music, old time bluegrass, and the Grand Ole Opry.

 She is survived by a son Douglas E. Lewis and wife Jacqueline of Culpeper, VA; a daughter, Denise A. DesRoches and husband Matthew of Etters, PA; four grandchildren, Andrew, Rebecca, Jacob, and Megan; two great-grand daughters, Emilia (Mili) and Maya; and several nieces and nephews. 

 A public viewing will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024, 12:00 Noon-1:00 PM at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Committal will be immediately thereafter at Shoops Cemetery, Harrisburg.
