Jack E. Snavely, 88, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of New Cumberland and Harrisburg, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 in Vibralife, Mechanicsburg.
Jack was born in Harrisburg to the late Hal and Mildred (Erdley) Snavely. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Catherine (Boslego) Snavely and his son Paul C. Snavely.
He was a retired insurance agent and principle of Snavely Associates, Camp Hill; a graduate of Rider College of Business, Trenton, NJ; and a Korean War Navy veteran. Jack attended First Church of God, New Cumberland; was raised on Fourth St., New Cumberland; was a 1949 graduate of New Cumberland High School; an Eagle Scout; and attended the Navy School of Music.
Jack started his insurance career with New York Life and took over for the late former senator, George Wade as General Agent for Ohio National Life. His career lasted over 45 years. He was a life long member in many professional organizations such as American College in Financial Planning, International Association for Financial Planning, the Estate Planning Council and Harrisburg Life Underwriters.
He was a civic leader and director in various local and national organizations. Co-Founder and Past President of the Central PA Friends of Jazz, American Cancer Society, Harrisburg Young Republicans, Perseverance Lodge, Zembo Shrine, YMCA, American Red Cross, American Federation of Musicians, Sertoma Charter Club, Tradewinds and Friendship Force.
He is survived by his children, Jon A. Snavely and wife Gretchen of Camp Hill, Jack E. Snavely, II and wife Dana of Lemoyne and Anita L. Wickenheiser and husband Craig of Harrisburg; a brother Robert of Harrisburg; daughter in law Virginia Snavely; his long-time companion Monica Hart; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 10, 2019 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time in the funeral home. Private burial with military honors will be immediately following the service in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
