Jacob D. Brown Jr., of Etters, passed away October 3, 2017. Jake, as he was known, was born in Harrisburg to Parents Jacob D. Brown, Sr. and Mary Violet Hummel Brown of Marysville, PA, both deceased. Preceded in death by infant twins Joan and William. Jake is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Fay. Jake is also survived by a loving family of whom he was very proud: Jacob III and his wife Ann, of Westbrook, Maine, with children Stephanie Cease and husband Judson, Darren, and Kari; Scott and his wife Christine of Malvern, Pa, and children Allison and Madeline; and Douglas and wife Amanda of Lisburn, Pa, with children Natalie and Vanessa.
Jake was graduated from Susquenita High School in 1957. He attended Penn State University and was graduated from Shippensburg State College in 1963 with a B.S. in Education majoring in Mathematics and minoring in English. He also earned his Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1966 from Shippensburg. Jake taught mathematics and was a guidance counselor at Central Dauphin East Junior High School for 28 years and a guidance counselor at Central Dauphin East Senior High School for 7 years. He was also guidance department chairperson for K-12 for 3 years and retired in 1998 after 35 years of service to Central Dauphin School District.
Jake served in the 271st Combat Communications Squadron of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard for 9 years – 1956 to 1965. He was a person with many interests and a member of many organizations: NEA, PSEA, PA Assoc. of School Retirees, PA School Counselors Assoc., National Wildlife Assoc., West Shore Sportsman’s Assoc., Trout Unlimited, and the Audubon Society.
Jake was a member of Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church for 50 years, where he served in many positions: Administrative Board staff, Staff Parish Relations Committee, Usher, Head Usher, and lastly Church Historian. He participated in the scouting organizations sponsored by his church for 17 years, holding the positions of Webelos Leader and Cubmaster of Cub Pack 198, and Troop Committee Chairman and Scoutmaster of Troop 198. He was awarded KAC District Award of Merit for Scouting. He was also a dedicated Easter egg maker for his church.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until funeral services at 11am Saturday at Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
