James F. Jacobs

James F. Jacobs, 84, of Camp Hill, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital. Son of the late David and Ida (Sugar) Jacobs, he was born on February 8, 1936 in Harrisburg.

James was a 1955 graduate of William Penn High School, Harrisburg, and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended and graduated from beauty school, working locally as a stylist until opening his own shop in the early 1970s, J & J Beauty Salon, in Lemoyne. He had a very loyal clientele, and his shop was a staple on Hummel Avenue until its doors closed after 35+ years of business. Being as sociable and hard-working as he was, it wasn’t surprising that he found a part-time job at Karns Foods, Lemoyne, after a brief stint as “retired.” He continued his skill of hairdressing up until the very end, seeing select clients over the years. A Messianic Jew, James incorporated his Jewish heritage with his Christian faith, attending Graceways, Camp Hill; he was very active in the church and enjoyed the relationships he had developed along the way. He enjoyed being a grandfather, and made it his mission to root on his grandkids in every facet of life; he was the “road warrior” when it came to traveling to their sporting events, from grade school on through their college athletics. He was a passionate Pittsburgh Steeler fan, and he’d proudly display his Terrible Towel on game days (or any day, for that matter). His laugh was amazing and highly contagious, and he had a great sense of humor, entertaining his family and friends alike with riddles and a quick wit.

He is survived by his children, Skip Eagle of New Cumberland, Stephen Eagle (Elsie) of Mechanicsburg, David Jacobs (Carolyn) of New Cumberland, and Cyndie (Jeffrey) Shevenock of Reisterstown, MD; grandchildren, Angie Halpin (Brent), Dustin Eagle, Jessica Eagle (Bryan Tierney), Russell Burnhisel Kelly), Nathaniel Baker (Annie), Eric Baker (Karie), Zachariah Baker, Tate Moore-Jacobs, Maura Schimp (Mitchel), and Jedrek Shevenock; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Uriah, Kassandra, Elisabeth, and Emmalyn; a sister, Miriam Fisher; his former wife, Jeanne A. Jacobs of New Cumberland; in-laws, cousins, and countless nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings, Ruth, Gret, Norma Jean, Robert, Richard, Donald, Stanley and his twin brother, Joseph.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 11AM until 3PM at the pavilions of New Cumberland’s Borough Park, 517 Front Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070. James’s final resting place will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
