James W. “Pap Jim” Moran, Sr., 93, of Camp Hill, transcended into eternal life on January 2, 2017.
Born to the late John Edward and Catherine (Smyth) in Syracuse, NY, on February 18, 1923, James left his upstate New York home to serve as a Marine in World War II before settling in the Harrisburg area.
It was there that he married his wife of 63 years, Violet R. (Rowe) Moran, who preceded him in death in 2009. Along with Violet, James enjoyed playing pinochle and traveling the globe, but most of all, he delighted in the company of his friends and family.
He was a member of St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland; American Legion Post 1001, Harrisburg; VFW Post 7415, New Cumberland; D.A.V. #50, Camp Hill; N.A.R.F.E. Chapter 1816, Mechanicsburg; Mechanicsburg Club; and Der Harrisburg Maennerchor.
His fun-loving spirit and contagious good will made “Pap Jim” a buddy to many and a blessing to all. Though Jim’s personality was truly one of a kind, his legacy endures in his loving family.
James is survived by his son, James W. Moran, Jr. (Molly) of Mechanicsburg; daughter, Patricia A. Moran of New Cumberland; six grandchildren, Michelle Balthaser (Mark) of Harrisburg; Pamela S. Moran (Jeff Schlegel) of Camp Hill, James W. Moran III of the Florida Keys, Shannon T. (Moran) Celesnik (Ryan) of Mechanicsburg, and Kelly J. Moran of New Cumberland; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Peggy Rosinski of Toledo, OH; and sisters-in-law Sue Moran and Joyce Moran, both of Syracuse, NY.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Moran was predeceased by his brothers, John, Tom, Bob, and Bernie; and his brother- and sisters-in-law Herbert Rowe, Josephine Rowe, and Phyllis Moran.
Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Friday at Parthemore Funeral Home in New Cumberland.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Theresa Parish in New Cumberland. Committal will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
