Janet (Woodcock) Yon, 86, formerly of Halifax, died on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Daughter of the late J. Sidney and Ruth (Lantz) Woodcock, she was born on March 10, 1932 in Altoona.
Janet was a graduate of McVeytown Oliver Joint High School, where she was editor of the high school newspaper and received the journalism award. She was employed as a caretaker and custodian at Murphy’s Five & Ten, Holiday Inn, Halifax Elementary School and Susquehanna Lutheran Village. In her free time, she enjoyed playing the piano, sign and window painting, and reading. She was a woman of strong faith; she attended various Assembly of God Churches across the mid-state.
Surviving are three children and their spouses, Mark V. Yon (Linda), Elaine Q. Matter (Kenneth), Jocelyn R. Lindsey (John); six grandchildren and their significant others, Duane (Heather), Timothy (Heather), Darin (Amber), Tiffany (Jonathan), Jerica (Demetrius), and Andrew (Carley); seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ethan, Hannah, Abigail, Chase, Everett and Demetrius, Jr.; two brothers, J. Sidney Woodcock, Jr. and Dave P. Woodcock (Janet); and a sister, Joyce E. Brotzman (Harry). She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Yon; three brothers, J. William Woodcock (Catherine), Daniel R. Woodcock (Loretta) and an infant brother; and a sister-in-law, Twila Woodcock.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Burial will take place at Blair Memorial Park, Altoona, at the convenience of the family.
