Janice J. Light

Janice J. Light, 87, of Mechanicsburg passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg.

She was the daughter of the late Frederick F. and Helen (DiGiacomo) Shirk, born on October 18, 1936 in Campbelltown, PA.

She was a 1954 graduate of Palmyra High School. She was Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad where she caught the eye of her high school sweetheart and future husband, Lamar.

She graduated from Polyclinic Nursing School in 1957 where she began her career as a registered nurse.

In 1958 she married the love of her life, Lamar, and together they raised 3 daughters. She was the formidable matriarch of the family, especially devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were an inseparable couple, married for 64 years. They dedicated their lives to each other and to their family.

Janice and Lamar enjoyed traveling with the family, attending their grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts, and playing golf. Janice made some of her closest friends walking the golf courses at The Country Club of Harrisburg, for 30+ years, West Shore Country Club for 25+ years, and was loved by all. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar L. Light, and her brother, Frederick E. Shirk. 

She is survived by her children, Anne-Marie Mettus (Richard) of Feasterville, Elaine L. Price (James) of Mechanicsburg, and Patti J. Savastio (Michael) of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren; Megan Friedman (Matthew), Matthew Price, Carinne Mettus, Jonathan Mettus, Ellen Kremer (Kevin), and Thomas Savastio (Carly); and great-grandchildren, Kellan Friedman, Owen Friedman, and Julia Kremer; and several nieces and nephews including Debra Wilkenloh and Frederick B. Shirk.

Visitation will be at 10:30 and funeral services at 11:30am Tuesday, August 27th at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church where Janice had been an active member. Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
