Jay Carroll McKelvey, 79, of Lemoyne, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in Select Specialty Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
Jay was a retired firefighter and assistant master mechanic with the Harrisburg City Bureau of Fire, former Vice-President of the Local 428 firefighters union and a graduate of John Harris High School. He was an avid outdoorsman, with life-long passions for hunting, boating, camping, fishing and snowmobiling. He was a gourmet cook, enjoyed playing golf and watching Penn State football. He was a member of the West Shore Elks Club; and, as a young adult, he was a rugby player and member of several local drum and bugle corps competition groups. Above all, Jay loved spending his time with his family, closest friends and his grandchildren.
Jay was born in Duncannon, the son of the late Norman and Ruth (Boyer) McKelvey. Jay was the youngest of seven children.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Joyce A. (Reilly) McKelvey; children, Michael McKelvey of VA, Meredith Brommer of Baltimore, MD and Matthew McKelvey of Union, KY; sisters, Joanne Maguire of GA and Joyce Zimmerman of Marysville, PA; and four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Christopher, Braden and McKenna.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland with Reverend Dennis Snider officiating. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
