Jeffrey “Jeff” Woods, 63 of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Vestal, N.Y., and Syracuse, N.Y. passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, November 30, 2017 surrounded by his beloved family. Jeff is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pat. Jeff and Pat met in middle school and did not spend much time apart in the 52 years that they knew each other. They enjoyed bantering with each other, going out on Friday nights, watching sports, cheering on their children, and spending time with their latest four-legged addition, Otto.
Jeff’s greatest passion was his children and he was their biggest supporter. He was the proud father of Andy and Stacy Woods, Great Falls, Va.; Katie and Brian Hoffses, Townsend, Del.; and Krissy Woods, St. Davids, Pa. He loved spending time with his children and was particularly proud that they were graduates of Syracuse University. He was also thrilled that Andy and Krissy followed in his footsteps and pursued avocations as referees. Jeff particularly relished his new role as a grandfather and was excited for his future adventures with grandsons, Parker and Brady. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Dick” Woods and Margaret “Peg” Woods and dear in-laws Clarence “Barney” and Mary Barnard. Jeff was a great brother to Rick, Joanne, and Bill Woods; brother-in-law to Jim, Rick, David, and Bob Barnard; and a favorite uncle to many loved family members.
Jeff was born at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., where his love for the Orange began. He later resided in Vestal, N.Y. where he graduated from Vestal Senior High School in 1972. He was a 1976 graduate of the Syracuse University Whitman School of Management with a Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management. Following his graduation, Jeff started a prolific 40-year journey in supply chain. Jeff was employed by the IBM Corporation from 1977 to 2009. In 2009, Jeff transitioned to the Geodis Wilson Corporation as a Logistics Project Manager for the Americas. Jeff was valued by all of his colleagues, customers, and supply chain partners for his logistics expertise, fearless candor, and ability to make people and situations better.
Jeff was a proud football and lacrosse official, and dear and respected friend to his brotherhood of officials. He was a NCAA Division 1 referee, worked various PIAA district and state playoff games, Big 33 games, and spent the most recent football season as a Division 1 replay official. Jeff was inducted into the Capital Area Chapter of the PIAA Football Officials Hall of Fame in 2015 and was a college lacrosse official for 12 years. Jeff loved to golf and did so all over the country; he enjoyed cheering for Syracuse University sports teams and the New York Yankees; and was a great, fun friend to many. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
