Jessie Louise Sites

February 24, 1936 — December 4, 2019

Jessie Louise Sites, 83, of Camp Hill, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 due to complications from respiratory disease. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard (Dick) Sites, of 48 years marriage, and son-in-law, Douglas Wolf.

She is survived by three generations of loving family consisting of her children: Mark Sites (Sue) and Carolyn Wolf; grandchildren Shannon Wevodau (Wes), Nick Sites (Samantha), Richard Wolf and Joshua Wolf; along with five great grandchildren, and close relationships with extended family and many treasured friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and treasured friend to those she held dear.

She was born in Fort Edward, NY, in 1936 to the late Abraham Lincoln and Olive (Loy) Stark, growing up on a family farm in Durkeetown, NY, and graduating from Argyle Central High School.

Jessie’s professional life included positions held as a bank teller and, upon moving to Central PA, as a payroll processor at New Cumberland Army Depot. She and her husband, Dick, were the owner/operators first of The Village Deli in Lemoyne and subsequently of The Distelfink in Gettysburg.

Jessie met Dick in high school when his military family transferred to the area. They became high school sweethearts. They married in 1954 and as Dick wanted a military career, they were destined to move frequently living throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Although she was a small-town farm girl, she made friends quickly and with ease; a life skill which would aid her throughout her husband’s military career and deployments. When Dick was stationed in Vietnam and San Domingo, she was solely responsible for meeting all the family needs.

Later in life when her husband suffered a brain aneurysm, which left him an invalid, she become a stay at home caregiver – an assignment spanning 19 years. Her devotion and commitment was not lost on her grateful children and her strength in spirit was a testament to all those around her.

Jessie was a woman whose spiritual life shaped her every action. She was a devoted Christian who enjoyed bible study, adult Sunday School and service to her church and church family. This often meant visiting the sick and caring for others after her husband’s death.

Beyond her enjoyment of cooking and hosting family dinners, she could nearly answer all the questions of her favorite show, Jeopardy; was an avid reader, enjoyed history and took pride in creating hand crafts by knitting, crocheting, sewing and cross stitch. Family members were the beneficiaries of these many gifts of her love.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm Friday, December 13, at Parthemore Funeral Home, 1303 Bridge Street, New Cumberland. A funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Kelly Legg on Saturday, December 14, at 10:30 am at West Shore Baptist Church, 2025 Market Street, Camp Hill. There is no graveside service.
