Joanne Adele Emery Redshaw, 85, of Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of Camp Hill, PA, died Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg.
Joanne was born on April 22, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the daughter of the late Milton “Doc” and Rachel Evans Emery. She was the widower of John “Jack” Ross Redshaw. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Stephen Ross Redshaw, and brother, Milton Emery.
Joanne was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. After college, she briefly taught at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. Joanne was an amazing piano player and for 52 years she taught private piano lessons. After her children were grown and married, she also enjoyed working part-time at the Bon-Ton Department Store as a Sales Associate.
She taught Sunday School for 35 years and she was Superintendent of the Education Department at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, DE. She was currently a member of the Christ Presbyterian Church in Camp Hill, PA.
During college, she met the love of her life, Jack Redshaw, and they were married in 1962 and had a beautiful marriage of 60 years until Jack’s passing in 2022. Jack and Joanne had two sons, Matthew and Stephen. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to four grandsons.
Joanne enjoyed playing bridge, music, reading and was a passionate Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, but her greatest joy came from times spent with her family, especially their outings to Pittsburgh to cheer on their teams.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Matthew J. Redshaw and Brenda F. Redshaw (Wilkins) of Metuchen, NJ; her daughter-in-law, Julie M. Redshaw (Fetrow) of New Cumberland; four grandsons, David, Tyler (Julia), Timothy (Shannon), and Michael (Emily); her great-grandchildren, Charlotte and John “Jack”; her sister-in-law, Margaret Emery and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Christ Presbyterian Church, Camp Hill. Visitation will be at 11:00am followed by the service at 11:30am. Private burial will be in Pittsburgh, PA, at a later date.
