John Alan Brewer

John Alan Brewer, 78, of New Cumberland, PA and formerly of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 in his residence with his family at his side. 

He retired from the Pennsylvania and Norfolk Southern Railroad and worked out of both the Enola Yards and Harrisburg for more than 37 years.  John was a member of the Maryland Army National Guard during the Vietnam War and was a member of both the American Legion and the AmVets in Hagerstown, MD.  He loved animals, especially his beloved cat Leni and dog Luna. 

John was born in London, England, the son of the late John H. and Kathleen (Bridger) Brewer. 

He is survived by his wife of more than 58 years, Patricia (Bartles) Brewer; daughters, Christine Brewer (Kenneth Rudell) of Ithaca, NY and Jennifer Brewer of New Cumberland; and a sister Jill Brewer Lee of Shippensburg. 

In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no services. 

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in John’s memory to either Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to The Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
