John E. Scheaffer, Jr.

Beloved father, grandfather and avid sports fan deemed “The Mayor of New Cumberland,” John E. Scheaffer, Jr. 76, of Camp Hill died Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at his daughter’s home in New Cumberland. 

He attended Lock Haven University, was a self-employed contractor, and Chief of Building Services for the State of Pennsylvania at the State Capital. He was a member of Blues Society of Central PA, Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity, proud member of Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program, and supported The Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.

He especially enjoyed watching his beloved Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles and Penn State Football. He was a lover of the blues, had a passion for cooking and most of all his trips to the Caribbean!

He was born December 29, 1947 in Harrisburg to the late John E. and Lillian (Serwatka) Scheaffer, Sr. 

He is survived by his son, John M. Scheaffer (Rina Ortega) of Brooklyn, NY; daughter, Jessica R. Gonzalez (Carmelo) of New Cumberland; sister, Janice L. Scheaffer of Taylors, SC; and grandchildren, Redding L. Scheaffer, Ruby L. Scheaffer, Mavis L. Scheaffer, and Rio R. Gonzalez and his partner and loving companion of 22 years, Bonnie Sohmer of Mechanicsburg, PA.

Visitation will be held from 2 until a Celebration of John’s Life at 3pm Saturday September 14th at Parthemore Funeral Home in New Cumberland, PA. 

Another Celebration of Life will be held at John’s annual Christmas Party.
