John F. “Jack” Rescorla, 90, of Messiah Lifeways, Upper Allen Twp., and formerly of Etters, passed peacefully at Messiah Lifeways on Monday, March 6, 2017.
Jack served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. General W.F. Hase and the U.S.S. Hopi. Prior to the Navy, Jack served in the Pennsylvania Guard (predecessor to the National Guard). Jack had a very long career working at Chromalloy (formerly TRW) as an expeditor and served for many years as a union steward and later as the President of the Jet Aircraft Workers Union.
Jack was a sports enthusiast and played a number of sports, but his passion was playing baseball. He played on the Navy team, The Bradford Baseball Club (Rhode Island), and many others. He was a big Penn State fan and attended many football games over the years. He loved deep sea fishing and was an avid gardener, and enjoyed sharing his peaches, watermelon, and cantaloupes with everyone. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 7415, New Cumberland and a former member of the Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, Etters. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Born on April 5, 1926, in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Maude A. (Devlin) Rescorla. He was the widower of Lois J. (Matzinger) Rescorla and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter G. and Robert C. Rescorla.
Surviving are two daughters, Debra K. Desso (husband, Tom) of Mechanicsburg, and Sherry N. DiPrima (husband, Frank) of Dillsburg; four grandsons, Todd (wife Jil) and Jeff Desso, Danny and Jonathan DiPrima; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Kaleb Desso.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with Chaplain Ken Fornicola, M.Div. officiating. Burial will be in Tri-County Memorial Gardens, Newberry Twp.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the funeral home on Friday.
