John H. Gill, Sr.

John Henry Gill, Sr., 92, of Mechanicsburg, died Thursday, January 2, 2020 at home, surrounded by family and friends. Son of the late William Z. and Carrie (Laughman) Gill, he was born on April 23, 1927 in Carlisle.

He retired from Holy Spirit Hospital as a security guard in 1992, after 20+ years of employment, and he was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Church, Mechanicsburg. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at Mountain Creek Campground, Gardners. He loved his family, and took pride in being a grandfather and great-grandfather. John also loved his instant rub-off lottery tickets.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen, of 69 years; brothers, Jimmy, William, Albert and Fred; and sisters, Ellen, Sara, Gerry, Leah, Florence, Janet, Oneida and Peggy. He is survived by his daughter, Connie Ready (Walter) of Marysville; two sons, John (Sue) of Duncannon, and Joseph of Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren, Jennifer Anthony (Keith), Daniel A. Ready, and Geoff Gill; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Kayla Anthony.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at St. Katharine Drexel Church, Mechanicsburg. A viewing will begin one hour prior to mass at the church. A graveside service will take place immediately following mass in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
