John S. “Jack” Garling, 83, of Etters, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 4, 2017 in his residence.
He was the retired owner of Garling’s Landscape Service, a US Army veteran and a member of Grace Baptist Church, Lewisberry. John was a graduate of Stoney Brook College Prep Academy and Penn State. He was a scoutmaster of BSA Troop #59, and enjoyed landscaping, hunting, fishing, boating, camping and photography. But more than anything, John loved his family and the time he spent with them.
John was born in Shippensburg to the late Harold and Mary (MacDannald) Garling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Richard Garling, Polly Jensen, Ruth Martin, Janet Piper, and William Garling.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Eleonore (Gerberich) Garling; his children, Bill Garling and wife Ruth of Shippensburg, James Garling and wife Christine of Etters, Jean Brown and husband Karl of New Cumberland, Christine Almond and husband Dale of Lancaster, Barbera Brickner and husband Derek of Etters and Carol Ely and husband Mark of Etters; thirteen grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Grace Baptist Church, 780 Woodland Ave. Lewisberry, PA 17339 with Pastor Calvin Cutting officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2:30 – 4 pm Thursday at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at a future date.
