Jon R. Hoffsommer, 89, of New Cumberland, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. He was born in Berks County, PA to the late Robert and Sara Hoffsommer.
A 1952 graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, Jon would remain in Central PA all his life. As a young man, he served in the Pennsylvania National Guard, and he would spend a majority of his working career at Gannett Fleming, Camp Hill, retiring after 38 years as a draftsman.
Jon was engaging, routinely amusing those in his company with clever and humorous responses. He was a longtime member of Paxton Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, and he had a great interest in modern jazz, art (of all kinds) and antique advertising. He was quite knowledgeable when it came to sports cars and personally owned a pair of Corvettes and Jaguars at different points in time.
Surviving are his son, Mark, of Havre de Grace, MD; sister, Barbara Mark of Harrisburg; sister-in-law, Marie Hoffsommer of Metuchen, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Hoffsommer; and a brother, Robert Hoffsommer Jr.
There will be a memorial service held at Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111 on Saturday, October 5th at 11:00am.
