Joseph Alan Cooper, 71, of Fairview Twp., New Cumberland, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was a retired locomotive engineer for the Norfolk Southern Railroad, Enola; a member of St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland and its Knights of Columbus Council 8927, Lowther Manor Lodge 781 FAM, Camp Hill, Harrisburg Consistory AAONMS, Harrisburg, Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Middletown Hunters Anglers Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Additionally, he took great joy in attending classic car shows and showcasing his classic 65 Chevrolet Corvair.
Joe was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Howard B. and Leona (Worthington) Cooper.
He is survived by his wife of more than 49 years, Mary T. (Stern) Cooper; a daughter Eileen M. Lowry of Etters; three sons, Paul A. (Beth) of Augusta, GA, Michael J. (Laura) of Huntingtown, MD and Thomas H. of New Cumberland; three sisters, Mary D. Henderson of Waverly, NY, Nancy C. Bernard of Pittsburgh and Nina L. Cooper of Twinsburg, OH; ten grandchildren, Michael Jon (Nicki), Sarah (Brad), Dustin, Dylan, Serena, Morgan, Dalton, Alex, Zachary and Spencer and two great grandchildren, Layna and Collin.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 16, 2013 in Parthemore Funeral Home Cremation Services, 1303 Bridge St. New Cumberland. Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service Saturday in the funeral home. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family in Emanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry.
