Joseph F. Rodgers

Joseph F. Rodgers, 92, formerly of New Cumberland, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at his long-time residence The Woods at Cedar Run, Camp Hill which was located on the same parcel as his grandparents’ farm where he helped as a child. To him it was home.

A Navy Veteran of the Korean War era, he was a retired sheet metal worker from Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 19. He was a 1947 graduate of the former New Cumberland High School and a member of St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland. He loved spending his time with family and friends. Anything he did with them brought him joy and laughter. Joe also really enjoyed being outdoors spending time fishing and gardening. He loved nature and was especially fond of the ducks which would lay their eggs annually on his balcony planters at the Woods. He also enjoyed playing poker, bingo and bowling. Another enjoyment was watching his grandson in power lifting competition.

He was born October 2, 1929 in Harrisburg to the late Edward David and Winifred (Fegan) Rodgers. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores Catherine (Blahusch) Rodgers; brothers, Thomas and Edward; and daughter-in-law, Melissa.

He is survived by his children, David Rodgers of Mechanicsburg, Judy McAlpine (Jim) of Lewisberry, and Mary Jo Keener (Mark) of Lewisberry; brother, Cornelius “Con” Rodgers of New Cumberland; grandchildren, Ashley Rodgers, Jason Rodgers, and Jake McAlpine; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Peyton, and Lucas.

Viewing will be from 10am until funeral services at 11am Thursday at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Committal will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
