Josephine E. "Peppy" Russ

Josephine E. “Peppy” Russ, 92, formerly of New Cumberland, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in The Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg.
She was retired from the former New Cumberland Army Depot (now DDSP/DDRE), Fairview Twp. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland and the St. Lawrence Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge #13, Steelton.
Josephine was born in Steelton, on January 18, 1922, to the late Lawrence and Catherine (Gustin) Rudman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John V. Russ and a daughter Ann Marie Mueller.
She is survived by two daughters, Melanie J. Balchunas and husband William of Camp Hill and Stephanie L. Brehm and husband Thomas of New Cumberland; two sisters, Frances Romano of Steelton and Jean Priver of CA; and two granddaughters, Ivy E. Thompson and Jenna C. Mueller.
After retiring from her position at the Army Depot, she continued doing what she loved best, nurturing her granddaughters and homemaking. Her kitchen was the gathering spot for daughters and girlfriends who shared cups of coffee and home baked pastries, especially her sugar cookies. She made the most delicious spaghetti and meatballs a meal we will always remember!
Known for her style and dignity as well as her fashionable silver white hair, she was a loyal friend and confidant to all who knew and loved her.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited with Mom, and especially to the staff at the Jewish Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in her church, 1300 Bridge St. New Cumberland. Viewing will be from 9:30-10:30 am Tuesday in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Twp.
