Juanita Gail (Hooper) Romberger passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Lewisberry on October 21, 2024. She was born on October 14, 1946, in Huntingdon, PA and lived in Mt. Union, PA until her parents relocated their young family to Harrisburg, PA where she attended school, up to and including the 10th grade, at John Harris High School. The family then built a house and moved to Lewisberry, PA where she attended Cedar Cliff High School until graduation in 1964. She also attended the vocational school for cosmetology and loved to recount the story of how she got caught in the rain after experimenting with blue hair rinse at school. She resided at the family home in Lewisberry until her death.
During her life, Juanita was employed as a wig salesperson at K-Mart and a school lunch lady at E.H. Phillips Elementary School; however, the majority of her career was in the employ of Berg Electronics/DuPont /FCI where she worked her way up from the press operator to pricing specialist. After retirement from FCI, she enjoyed a second mini career with Capital Self Storage, doing everything from accounting to scheduling auctions for abandoned units. It was this aspect of her job that supplied her family with a lifetime supply of travel size toothpaste. In addition to her work, while employed for Berg/DuPont/FCI, she volunteered to head the Activities Committee that planned and organized holiday parties for children and provided each child with toys and treats. Juanita also served as Treasurer for the South Central Pennsylvania Pensioners Club (SCPPC) which endeavors to keep retirees connected by having dinners, holiday parties, picnics and other social events.
Juanita enjoyed traveling, collecting Shirley Temple memorabilia, attending band competitions and local theater productions. She was also very creative and took classes in everything from tole painting and basket weaving to stained glass and acrylic canvas painting. She often hosted craft classes for friends and family at her home that were always fun and everyone took home their creations. Juanita was also an avid cook and baker, and nobody ever went home hungry after a visit.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Leroy Hooper and B. Louise (Rosensteel) Hooper, and her brother, Dennis L. Hooper. She is survived by her dear forever friend, Robin E. Sanger, of Lewisberry, PA; her beloved daughter, Candi L. (Romberger) Kocher, of Mechanicsburg, PA; three cherished grandchildren, Nathan A. Kocher (Elissa), of Columbus, OH, Lindsey A. Kocher, of Cranberry Township, PA, and Teagan M. Kocher, of Palmyra, PA. Juanita is also survived by her sister, Deborah K. Hissner, of Mechanicsburg, PA; nephew, Russ Michael Hissner, Jr.; nephew, Russell L. Montchal, and niece, Stacey J. (Hooper) Stamey.
A celebration of her life will be held on November 2, 2024, at Parthemore Funeral Home, 1303 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA with visitation beginning at 11:00 am and service at 12:00 noon. Following the ceremonies, at 1:00 pm, all are welcome to attend a luncheon at the American Legion Post 143, 214 Market Street, New Cumberland, PA. Here, the fellowship, remembrances and celebration of the life of our much-loved Mother, Grammy, Friend, Sister, Aunt, Neighbor and Co-Worker, will continue.
In lieu of flowers, it was Juanita's wish to have those who loved her make a donation to their favorite charity or plant a tree in her honor.
