K. Gene Burgess

K. Gene Burgess, 73, of Mechanicsburg died Tuesday, January 21st at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp. 

He was a 1971 graduate of Moorefield High School, WV. He later attended Northern Virginia College where he received an associate's degree in construction management. He was employed by the Defense Logistics Agency, New Cumberland and retired in 2017. Prior to that, he was involved in private construction of various projects including schools and office buildings. He was a volunteer for LEEK Hunting and Mountain Preserve. Gene was a handyman and “Jack of All Trades.” He was a loving husband to his high school sweetheart, Vivian of 52 years and the best Dad and Pap Pap. He was the definition of a true family man. 

Gene was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved teaching his grandson’s new things and giving them the foundation to help them succeed in life. His grandchildren meant everything to him. 

He was born March 20, 1951, in Cumberland, MD to the late Alva A. and Pearlie J. (Nelson) Burgess. He was also preceded in death by his son, Christopher Scott Burgess; and brothers, Ivan and Eston. 

He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Smith) Burgess; daughter, Jenny Elizabeth Pierce (Donnie) of Carlisle; grandchildren, Remi Lorraine Pierce of Newville, Brody Scott Burgess and Dylan Scott Pierce of Carlisle; siblings, Juanita Scott of Brandywine, WV, Wilda Libby (Larry) of Anchorage, AK, Leon Burgess of Milam, WV, Carl Burgess (Linda) of Moorefield, WV, Alva Burgess, Jr. (Lisa) of Norwich, CT; aunt, Thelma Landis of Scena Rocks, WV and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Viewing will be from 3-5pm Saturday, January 25th at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. 

Additional viewings will be held at Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV from 5-7pm Tuesday and at 10am Wednesday followed by funeral services at 11am. Burial will follow at Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield, WV.
