Kay Frances Baker, 71, of Etters passed peacefully Sunday, December 27, 2020 at home, surrounded by family.
She was a retired teacher and counselor from West Shore School District, where she served as an educator for 38 years. Kay graduated from Elizabethtown High School. She later attended and graduated Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor’s in Education, followed by her attendance and graduation at Shippensburg University, with a Master's in School Counseling. Upon retiring, Key continued to volunteer at Fishing Creek Elementary School as a Junior Achievement instructor and at the New Cumberland Public Library. Kay loved spending time with her family and close friends. She was an avid traveler, and enjoyed camping (tenting), hiking, and kayaking in state and national parks. Her love of a good book, the Steelers (most seasons), and opportunities to ride her bike, swim, and exercise guided her free time as well. Above all, Kay refused to allow her cancer to define her as a person, instead, using her experiences to offer support to others in the form of mentorship. She fully embraced life, in all of its challenges and beauty.
She was born August 8, 1949 in Lancaster to the late Charles Alvin and Rheba Mae (Goodling) Leonard.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Stephen Kyler; son, Rhett C. Baker and his wife Shaunna of Etters; sister, Teresa A. Hicks and husband Terry of Southbury, CT; brother, Charles A. Leonard and wife Debbie of Muncy; nieces and nephews, Nathan and his wife Katrina, Charles and his wife Lauren, Matthew and his wife Laura, Adam and his wife Becca, Natalie, and great nephews.
