Kenneth Donald Lytle

May 2, 1938 — September 18, 2024

Harrisburg, PA

Kenneth Donald Lytle, 86, of Harrisburg, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at his Susquehanna Township residence. He was the son of the late Kenneth Earl and Grace Elizabeth (Swartzwelter) Lytle, born on May 2, 1938, in Masontown.

Ken was a graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, and would go on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve. He was a draftsman in his professional life, working for several firms before retiring from Tyco (formerly AMP) in Harrisburg. He had an eye for design, devising kitchen and bathroom layouts at one point in his career while also spending time at Harley Davidson in York.

He was a gifted artist and specialized in precision lettering and branding; he would offer his talents to the local high school band and the fire departments where he volunteered, branding the exterior of their equipment and vehicles. He was a longtime member of both the Fairview Township Fire Department and Linglestown Fire Company #1. In his prime, he enjoyed watching The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson after a long day at work. Always a man of faith, Ken belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church, New Cumberland, where he was also a past member of their choir.

More recently, he was a resident of Cherry Orchard Place Apartments. Ken immediately made friends, and he and his dog Abby could be found walking the grounds, in the Community room for puzzle time, or “holding court” out on the front patio. He had an open-door policy for visiting and could often be found watching The Price Is Right, the Phillies, Pirates, or even the Baltimore Orioles baseball games. He loved his Dallas Cowboys, and, if the plays warranted, would often do his own commentary on the game. His neighbors were his friends and cared for and loved Ken through his final day there.

Surviving Ken are his children, Michael Lytle (Diana) of Dover, John Lytle (Alyssa) of Lenore, NC, Lisa Reneé of Mechanicsburg, and Jennifer Pryor (Ken) of Bloomsbury, NJ; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Aaron, Courtney, Emma, Katherine, Zachary and Korinne; three great-grandchildren, Ronin, Braelynn and Gavin; a brother, Richard Lytle (Mary) of Harrisburg; the mother of his four children, Janet Lytle of Dillsburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife, Carol Lytle.

A visitation will be held from 1PM until a memorial service begins at 2PM on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Ken’s name to his church family at: St. Paul Lutheran Church, 530 Bridge St. New Cumberland, PA 17070.
