Kent L. Chestnut

Kent L. Chestnut, 88, of Harrisburg died January 9, 2025 at Camp Hill Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A graduate of Penn State University where he studied business and played on the Lacrosse team with Rosie Greer. He worked in various industries throughout his life: finance, sales, and finally for 25 years as much-loved limo driver for AEGIS Insurance and many regular, private clients who enjoyed his wit, humor, and extensive knowledge of history and sports as he drove them to East Coast airports for business and pleasure trips. His driving position allowed him to rub elbows with celebrities such as Shirley Jones, Don Rickles, Phyllis Diller, and Milton Beryl.

A proud, lifelong resident of Central Pennsylvania, he had an extensive knowledge and deep love for the region which he considered the best place in the world to live, bar none! His hobbies included keeping up with his compost pile and bountiful garden that he shared generously, occasional trips to Penn National, and heckling up and coming players as he attended Harrisburg Senators games on City Island. For many years he organized and managed a locally popular football contest that many in the locally community clamored to be a part of. A long-time patron of the landmark Progress Grille since the early 60’s he continued to be a local fixture and resident “sweet curmudgeon” there until just recently, even though he had traded a beer glass for a cup of coffee back in the 1980’s. He is remembered fondly there by many past and present regular customers. For the last 10 years of life, he was a doting “dog dad” to his chihuahua Baxter who offered him company and furry companionship at home.

He was born January 25, 1936 in Bellefonte to the late Torrence Oliver and Dorothy Rose (Burgan) Chestnut.

He is survived by daughters, Melanie Ann Royles of Marrakech, Morocco and Nadine M. Chestnut of New Cumberland; sister, Patricia Browne of Saint James, NY; and grandson, Daniel Edward Royles of Syracuse, NY.

We will miss him greatly!

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
