L. John Eichorn, 93, formerly of Etters, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at The Homeland Center in Harrisburg.
A native of Ramsey, New Jersey, John was born on Armistice Day, November 11, 1923, in Suffern, New York. He was the son of Leander P. Eichorn and Helen Margaret (Lawlor) Eichorn.
He was a 1941 graduate of Ramsey High School, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing and advertising from New York University in 1965.
During his business career, he was the advertising manager of several divisions of AMF, Inc., and he later worked as the director of public relations of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce.
During WWII, John served with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was an instructor pilot on Martin Marauder B-26 medium bombers.
He enjoyed reading, photography, woodworking, and using his computer. He played tennis from his teenage years through his early eighties.
He is survived by his sister, Virginia Eichorn, formerly of Washington, D.C., now residing in New Mexico. He is also survived by his five children: Cheryl Eichorn of Las Cruces, NM, Nancy Edelson (Jeff) of Harrisburg, Beverly Paine of Harrisburg, Greg Eichorn of Felton, Pennsylvania, and Laurie Alkins (Frank) of Narvon, Pennsylvania. He also had eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was past president of the Pennsylvania Public Relations Society, and following retirement he worked with the Central Pennsylvania Literacy Council as a volunteer tutor of adult learners.
John has made an anatomical gift donation to the Pennsylvania State University School of Medicine in Hershey. There will be no service at this time.
