Leon Ray Walter, 79, of New Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, surrounded by family in his home. He was the son of the late Rudolph and Beatrice (Bressler) Walter, born on July 8, 1943 in Burnham.
Leon was a 1961 graduate of Lewistown High School, going on to study accounting at Thompson Institute, Harrisburg. In addition to a degree, he would meet and fall in love with a classmate, Marie. They would marry and start a family in New Cumberland, where Leon would become a Certified Public Accountant, rising to the position of CFO for Brawley Distributing Company, Lewisberry. From 1992 onward, he was a self-employed CPA, handling duties for countless individuals and entities in the area.
He was a longtime member of St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland, and he exemplified a Christian life in the way he interacted with his family and others. He was a social member of the VFW – Post 7415, New Cumberland, and a charter member of the Bogey Buggy Golf Club. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and going out to eat with his family at Summit Restaurant or Culhane’s Steak House. Family vacations to Clearwater, FL and NC beaches were some of his favorite memories. He was an avid supporter of Red Land and Penn State athletics, and tuned into the Phillies most summer evenings.
But his passion for his teams paled in comparison to the fulfillment his grandchildren would bring to his life. He attended as many events and milestones as he could, watching his family grow and supporting them all the while. The qualities that made him a successful professional were evident at home as well; he was dependable and loyal, trustworthy and sincere.
Surviving Leon is his wife and best friend of 56 years, Marie (Trelinski) Walter; his children, Dionne Walter of Delaware, and Aaron Walter (Carmella) of Etters; grandchildren, Keith Walker, Kristopher Walker (Kayla Wold), Molly Walter, and Camden Walter; a great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Walker; two brothers, Stanford Walter (Joan), and Leslie Walter (Susan); and a sister, Frances Harshbarger (Charlie). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Scott.
