Lois M. Sims, 88, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015. She last resided at Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
Born on August 9, 1926, in Reno, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel McCormick. Lois received her nursing degree from the Butler County Memorial Hospital Nursing Program in 1948. She worked as a nurse before starting her family and again when her children were older.
She was a wonderful mother and devoted wife to her beloved husband of 62 years, David Sims, who predeceased her in 2013.
She and Dave spent time living in Beckley, West Virginia, Worcester, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine before moving back to Pennsylvania. They settled down in Lower Allen Township for most of their life together although they continued to love vacationing in Maine. Lois and Dave loved outdoor activities including camping, canoeing, and cross-country skiing. They enjoyed attending Penn State games, playing bridge and traveling together. Lois was a member of the Y for years where she loved to swim. She also loved giving back and taking care of others and participated in many volunteer activities including being a docent for the Governor’s Mansion.
Lois was an active member of Camp Hill United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed singing in the choir and her time spent as Christian Education Co-Director.
Lois cherished her family and was always there for them. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are her son, Mark and his wife Susan of Staunton, Virginia; daughter Wendy Sims of Winthrop, Washington; and, daughter Carol Sims of Truckee, California. Also surviving are grandchildren Kristy Pineiro and her husband Captain James Pineiro and their four children; Anna Cope and her husband Jason Cope, PhD.; Nathan Sims; Emma Sue Sims; Claire Waichler; and Colin Waichler.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 23rd at the Camp Hill United Methodist Church. A family visitation will be held at the same location after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Hill United Methodist Church at 417 S. 22nd St. Camp Hill PA 17011.
