Lureda B. (Havercamp) Smith, 90, of Dover, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle. She was the daughter of the late George and Nora (Becker) Havercamp, born on March 29, 1931 in Silver Spring, MD.
Lureda was someone who cared about those in need; she and her husband, Harrold, spent a lifetime volunteering as foster parents. The couple fostered over twenty-five children throughout their vibrant years, with most of the children assigned being infants or toddlers. She was a lifetime member of the Wellsville Saddle Club, and she spent many years with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Lower Allen. Lureda was a (very busy) housewife for many years, but she did work part-time at certain points in life; she was in the activities department with Fairview Community Nursing Facility, Lewisberry, and she worked as a driver for the handicapped. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting. What she loved most was the time she spent with family.
Surviving Lureda are her children, Harrold M. Smith Jr (Esther “Cookie”) of Dillsburg, Frank M. Smith (Dee) of Dover, and Freda Smith (Larry) of New Cumberland; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harrold M. Smith Sr; two great-grandchildren, Garrett Anderson and Caleb Harley; and siblings, George Havercamp and Orolea “Chick” Wrightstone.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, New Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making donation to Lureda’s church: Franklintown United Brethren in Christ, 10 North Baltimore Street, Franklintown, PA 17323.
