Lynn "Jake" F. Aikens

Lynn “Jake” F. Aikens, 71, of New Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 13th, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born September 16, 1952 in Harrisburg to the late George F. and Doris J. (Brown) Aikens.

He was a devoted husband to Ruthie (Kauffman) Aikens, and the best of fathers to Tasha Aikens of New Harbor, ME, Alicia Abel (Brandon) of New Cumberland, and Abby Ribout (Joel) of Burlington, VT. He was the most fun and super proud “Pappy” to his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Anna, Casey, Riley, Ivy, Saige, Belle, and Neve; and six great-grandchildren. He was also a cherished Uncle to several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Crandall, of Charlotte, NC and preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Mike Aikens. He loved his family beyond measure. Jake remained close to his childhood friends from Wormleysburg, and continued to cultivate important friendships in every chapter of his life. He gave the best advice, and always paused for meaningful connections. Everyone could feel his light when in his presence. He loved people!

He retired as a Registered Nurse from Harrisburg State Hospital, and then dedicated several years of service as a Hospice Nurse for Hospice of Central Pennsylvania. Lynn’s heart for service to others was unparalleled. His ability to connect with others was one of his biggest gifts. His love for Jesus, and the red print in the Bible was his guide; his faith was strong!

Lynn (Jake) had more hobbies than can possibly be named. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt, fish, and birdwatch, especially birds of prey. He possessed an “eagle eye” to spot all wildlife. He grew up on the Susquehanna River, and it was his playground for all sorts of activities and shenanigans. Having had a deep love of music, he loved to sing and play the guitar for family, friends, and church. He especially loved the Blues, and all kinds of Roots music. John Prine was always on his playlist!

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 21st at Negley Park in Lemoyne, PA in the upper Pavilion at 11:00 a.m., followed by a picnic. Bring a guitar to play if you have one! Parking will be limited, so please carpool if you are able. There will be a designated accessible drop-off area for those who are unable to walk far.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art- Saw Whet Owl Program. 176 Water Company Rd. Millersburg, PA 17061, https://nedsmithcenter.org/

Lynn (Jake) found great joy in volunteering for this program!
