Margaret K. Barbush

March 30, 1935 — August 19, 2024

New Cumberland, PA

Margaret K. Barbush, a loving mother and lifelong caregiver, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Monday, August 19, 2024. She was born to William and Violet Bramley on March 30, 1935, in St. Clair, Schuylkill County.

Marge graduated from Harrisburg Hospital’s nursing program in 1956 and embarked on a storied 42-year career as a registered nurse. Her caring bedside manner was employed at Harrisburg Hospital, as the Director of Nursing at Villa Teresa Nursing Home, the New Cumberland Army Depot health clinic, and the state hospital in Harrisburg from where she retired. Her career was not just a profession, but a lifelong calling to help others.

Eugene “Jake” Barbush and Marge met on a blind date and married in 1956. Jake’s commitment to his faith and skilled dancing moves won her heart. They were inseparable until his passing in 1989.

An active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in New Cumberland, Marge was deeply involved in her faith community. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, a Boy Scout Den Mother, and a member of St. Theresa’s PTA and St. Theresa’s Church Board for many years. Her home was a hub of hospitality, especially famous for its Christmas Eve parties and later for the welcoming backyard pool. Neighbors, friends, and family all joined her there where she was affectionately known by everyone as “Nana.”

Margaret leaves behind a legacy of love and nurturing through her children, Michael Barbush of Goodland, FL; Pamela Barbush (Joseph Colaluca) of Lemoyne; Kathleen Fackler (Michael) of Mechanicsburg; David Barbush (Rosanna) of St. Augustine, FL; and James Barbush (Quynh) of Hoi An, Vietnam; along with fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved niece, Mary Margaret Rutt, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, her cherished husband, her twin children Mary and William, and all six of her siblings. Her spirit and legacy will live on through the many lives she has touched.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margaret’s name to St. Theresa School, 1200 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070, continuing her legacy of support and care. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
