Margaret "Mickey" Irvin

January 26, 1920 — February 11, 2023

Margaret B. Irvin, 103, of Harrisburg, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at UPMC Community Osteopathic, Harrisburg. She was the daughter of the late Thomas G. and Ella (Pancake) Hoffmaster, born on January 26, 1920 in Harrisburg.

She was a 1939 graduate of Steelton-Highspire High School, and she would go on to work in retail sales for most of her working years. She started out in the shoe department of Bowman’s Department Store, Harrisburg, and would end her career and retire from JC Penny (Harrisburg East Mall location), working in the bridal section.

Known as “Mickey” to all those in her life, she was an unbelievable gardener, taking pride in her striking flower bed creations year after year. She was independent, and remained that way until her very last days, living on her own and continuing to enjoy friends and family. She was a 60-year member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Hershey Region. She enjoyed perusing craft fairs (often with her son-in-law, Bill), and had a creative side herself, making handmade crafts and painted sweatshirts throughout the years. Mickey loved the beach – any beach – but for years, OCMD was the annual summer vacation spot. Her family takes great comfort in the fact that just weeks ago, she was smashing a piñata at her birthday party, and still enjoying life to the fullest. She was so looking forward to an upcoming beach visit to Florida this summer where she wanted to get her feet in the sand one more time. She will be greatly missed.

Surviving Mickey are her daughters, Suzi Prescott (husband, Bill) of Lewisberry, and Charlene Mika (husband, Al) of New Cumberland; grandchildren, Cristi Fromm (husband, Matt), Amy Prescott, Jennifer Cook (husband, Andy), and Kelli McAlister (husband, Craig); great-granddaughters, Kayli and Lexi Fromm; great-grandsons, Luke and Coby McAlister; a sister, Etta Light; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Irvin; a sister, Dot Grubb; and two brothers, Elwood “Buck” Hoffmaster, and Robert Hoffmaster.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Hershey Region AACA Clubhouse, 131 Museum Drive, Hershey, PA 17033.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Mickey’s name to either the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (www.jdrf.org), or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) – St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
