Marilyn Joye Greene

d. May 10, 2013

Marilyn Joye Greene, 80, of Camp Hill, devoted navy wife, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, 10 May 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Camp Hill.
Marilyn was born 1 May 1933 in Johnson City, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late Russell J. Kolmus, Sr. and Cyrena Rachel (Thomas). Marilyn was also preceded in death by her step-mother Hazel R. (Smith) Kolmus. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lt. Commander Walter Greene, Jr. USN (Ret); her sons Jeffrey and his wife Melissa (Petrecz) of Harrisburg, and Michael and his wife Amy (Litzenberger) of Carlisle; and her daughter Wendy and her husband Gregory Kloiber of Langhorne, Pa. Marilyn is also survived by her brother Russell James Kolmus, Jr and his wife Marjorie Jane (Schloo) of Elizabethtown.
Marilyn graduated from Frankford High School in Philadelphia in 1951. She completed a one year course in Laboratory Technique at Frankford Hospital and continued to work as a laboratory technician at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia until 1959. Marilyn also worked as a supply technician at the Mechanicsburg Defense Logistic Agency depot from May 1981 until she retired in September 1993.
Marilyn’s marriage to her navy husband in December 1958 took her on a journey to several duty stations, some overseas, and finally brought her back to Pennsylvania where she and her family have resided since 1971. Marilyn will always be remembered for her strength and courage in caring for her mother who passed away when Marilyn was 23 years old. Later, she continued to show the same determination when she had to manage the household and care for her young children while her husband was serving overseas in Vietnam in 1970.
Marilyn was a ten year volunteer at the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library in Camp Hill. She enjoyed reading books and encouraged her children and grandchildren to do the same. She loved knitting and cross-stitching memorable items for her family. Marilyn enjoyed good music, shopping for family and playing the piano. Marilyn was an avid duplicate bridge player in local bridge groups where she continued her close relationship with friends.
