Marlene Dysert "Monnie" Haney

Marlene Dysert “Monnie” Haney, 83, of New Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 in Holy Spirit Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Harrisburg on March 10, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Philomena Denk Dysert and Warren S. Dysert. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Craig Bennington Haney and a daughter Lisa Haney-Cope.

Monnie graduated from William Penn High School in 1952. She met her husband while working as a secretary for the then Gannett, Fleming, Corddry and Carpenter, Inc. She was a stay-at-home mom who provided a loving, fun-filled home for her family. After her children were grown, Monnie opened “Special Additions,” a maternity shop in New Cumberland and later at the Camp Hill Mall.

Although she had no formal training, she excelled at interior home design, and shared her talents with many family members and friends. She and Jim spent many happy days playing tennis, ice skating and ballroom dancing. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafts. Many weekends were spent with her daughters searching for antiques and collectibles. Monnie and Jim’s love of cats was epic; stray cats always found a home at the Haney house.

Monnie is survived by her husband of more than 56 years, James G. Haney; her daughter Elizabeth C. “Betsy or Liz” Letcavage and husband Leon M. of New Cumberland; her son-in-law Donald F. Cope of New Cumberland; and her grandson Jordan James Cope.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 5, 2017 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland with the Rev. Cindy Garis, her pastor officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Friday in the funeral home. Entombment will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
