Martha E. (Dapp) Hempt, 96, formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Bethany Village, Lower Allen Twp.
Mrs. Hempt, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, attended Gettysburg College and was a life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority; P.E.O. Sisterhood; former officer of the Junior League of Harrisburg; past secretary of Hemlock Girl Scout Council; past board member of the American Red Cross, Harrisburg Chapter; and a fifty year member of the West Shore Country Club. Mrs. Hempt was also a volunteer for Holy Spirit Hospital, a past Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader, and an avid golfer and Bridge player.
Mrs. Hempt and her late husband Max founded Hempt Farms in 1948; a world renowned, Standardbred horse farm. They owned and bred several World Champion race horses.
She was born in Harrisburg on October 20, 1920 to the late Frederick B. and Marian (Martz) Dapp and was the widow of Max C. Hempt. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hempt was preceded in death by a son George F. Hempt and a brother Frederick B. Dapp, Jr.
Surviving are her children, Gerald L. Hempt and wife Lyn of New Cumberland, Martha H. Bair and husband William of Perrysburg, OH, and Marian H. Semoff and husband Evan of Camp Hill; a daughter in law Judith S. Hempt of New Cumberland; a sister Marianne Bacon of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, October 27, 2016 in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut St. Camp Hill, PA 17011. Private burial and committal service will be held in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp. There will be no viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to her church at the address above.
