Mary M. Czachur

July 23, 1942 — August 19, 2024

Bound Brook, NJ

Mary M. Czachur, 82, formerly of Bound Brook, NJ, passed away in the early hours of Monday, August 19, 2024, after a brief stay at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center, East Pennsboro Township. She was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn (O’Hara) Laggan, born on July 23, 1942, in Bridgeport, CT.

She was a 1960 graduate of Dover High School, NJ, and went on to spend her professional career as the Business Manager for EOHSI, a joint-venture institute focusing on Environmental and Occupational Health with Rutgers University and UMDNJ. In addition to her official duties, Mary led numerous charitable efforts, delivering Christmas to families that might not have one and school supplies to children in need. She met her late husband, David, at the Picatinny Arsenal, and together they would raise a daughter. As a couple, the two attended and were extremely active with Our Lady of Mount Virgin, Middlesex, NJ. Mary was a regular fixture at the Saturday evening mass, serving as head usher, greeting and seating all who came through the center aisle. She was also the first face everyone saw on their way to the famous Knights of Columbus breakfasts through the years, selling tickets and 50/50. She continued her charitable efforts, coordinating the delivery of gifts and basic supplies to multiple charities each year, especially the Christina S. Walsh Breast Cancer Foundation.

Mary was often called the life of the party, known for her sense of humor. Whether it was at the office, with her family, or at Bethany Village these past three years, Mary knew how to create a splash and make those around her feel comfortable. Always dressed to the nines, she was known as the “Pin Lady” and for having the most unique and eye-catching purses imaginable. Her love of Christmas was infectious, even establishing a full-time Christmas room filled with decorations and music piped in year-round. Her love of Christmas was matched by her love for Disney World, and it was a favorite destination especially during the holidays. Her big personality and even bigger heart will be missed by those closest to her.

Surviving Mary is her daughter, Christine Czachur and son-in-law, Brian Koscienski, of Camp Hill, PA; sisters-in-law, Glenda Laggan, Eileen Ambrose, and Monica Dimauro; brothers-in-law, Paul Czachur and Steven Czachur; and five nieces and one nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, David Frank Czachur (dcd. 2020); and a brother, John “Jackie” Laggan Jr.

A memorial service will be held at noon on August 28th at the Rife Center, Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on August 31st at Our Lady of Mount Virgin, Middlesex, NJ.

Please consider making a contribution in Mary’s name to the Christina S. Walsh Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 401, New Brunswick, NJ 08903, or at https://www.christinaswalshbcf.org/donate.html.
