Mary S. Calhoun, age 90, of Fairview Twp., Lewisberry, passed away on Sunday, March 07, 2021. She left this world in peace at home, surrounded by loving family. Mary loved her family. Her love was apparent in all her creative expressions, whether it was sewn into a stunning quilt or baked into a delicious pie. Her house was always open to family and friends and the gatherings were often large and always joyful. She had a wickedly sharp wit matched only by her comforting smile.
Mary worked as a cosmetologist at Bon-Ton Department Store. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Steelton and was actively involved in Girl Scouts.
Born on Tuesday, November 4, 1930 in Dalmatia, Mary was the daughter of the late Harry and Beatrice (Miller) Steffen. She was the devoted widow of Earl Calhoun. Mary’s son, Michael Calhoun, and brother, H. Eugene Steffen, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughters, Cheryl Whittle and her husband, Tom, Christine Barna and her husband, Michael, and Beth Sauder; grandchildren, Alton Whittle, Jessica Griffin, Teianna Benner, Michael Barna, Sarah Barna, Austin Sauder, and Taylor Sauder; ten great grandchildren; siblings, Phyllis Spaseff, Gary Steffen, and Nancy Plessinger.
Graveside services will be held in Emmanuel Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice (https://www.heartlandhospice.com/york).
