Mary V. (Pomeroy) Wrightstone, 75, of Lewisberry, passed away at her residence, with her husband by her side, on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Ralph Y. and Elma M. (Richards) Pomeroy, born on December 16, 1948 in Baltimore, MD.
Mary graduated from Parkville High School, Baltimore, and she would naturally gravitate to helping others as a social worker. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Millersville University and then a master’s from Temple University. She started her career at Harrisburg Hospital before working with Dauphin County’s social services. The second half of her career was spent at the Veteran’s Affair’s System in Lebanon, from which she retired.
She loved her family, and she certainly loved her pets. At the time of her passing, she enjoyed walks with her golden retriever, Annie, and spending time with her two cats, Tux and Sofie; they were truly the joys of her life. Whenever she could, Mary would volunteer at the York County SPCA in Emigsville. She also enjoyed going out to eat and having all sorts of fun with her close-knit group of girlfriends. The beach was always a special place for her, enjoying Ocean City, MD before it became so commercialized, and spending more recent summers in Dewey Beach. It certainly didn’t hurt that Dewey offered a yearly golden retriever weekend, an event she enjoyed this past year with Annie. Above all, Mary cherished the time spent with her children and their families. Her kind smile and gentle way will be remembered by all those who loved her.
Surviving Mary is her husband, Robert “Bob” Wrightstone; children, Justin Ogurkis of FL and Shannon Ogurkis of MD; grandchildren, Justin Ogurkis of DE, and Bailey and Cameran Frey, both of MD; a great-grandchild, Gideon of DE; sister, Deirdre Barrett of MD; brother, Timothy Pomeroy of MD; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation with friends and family will be held from 1-2PM on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. A public memorial service will immediately follow at 2PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution in Mary’s name to either: Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail, North York, PA 17406.
