Melvin R. "Mel" Faranov

Melvin R. “Mel” Faranov, 78, of New Cumberland, died peacefully at home on Friday, June 6, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born February 10, 1936 in Oberlin. Mel was the son of the late Pauline (Jefferies) and Peter Faranov.

Mel is survived by his loving wife, Marlene K. (Hawn), and celebrated their 54th anniversary on May 21st. His greatest joy in life was being by her side and taking trips together. In addition, Mel was a loving father and grandfather, and especially enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. Mel is also survived by his son, Andre Faranov and wife Kelly, daughter Renee’ Cook and husband Brandt, and grandchildren, Cameryn, Calle, Camille, Brandt, Morgan and Jenna. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Jim Faranov and sister, Peggy Radanovic.

Mel was an active member of the Community United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, since 1960. He valued and loved the companionship of his many friends there; especially the United Methodist Men’s Group.

Mel worked at Berg Electronics/DuPont from 1957 until his retirement in 1991. He was an avid reader, enjoyed history, fishing and being a handyman. He also served in the U.S. Army after graduating from Swatara Township High School. Mel was a quiet and generous man who was loved by everyone who knew him and will be truly missed, but forever remembered.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 13th, at Community United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. John R. Rauhut, his pastor officiating.
