Michael R. Smith, Sr., 70, of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, passed away in his home on April 18, 2024. He was born February 1, 1954 in Carlisle, PA, to the late Henry and Gertrude (Jansen) Smith. He was a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School, Class of 1972, retired in 2016 from a career in the PA House of Representatives' printing office, and most recently racked up the miles as a driver traversing the highways of central PA. He was an active member of St. Theresa parish.Over the years, he enjoyed playing softball, horseback riding, and collecting trophies in competitive power lifting. He was an avid sports fan, and loved cheering on the Orioles and Phillies, Notre Dame, and his beloved Vikings. However, his grandsons' youth sports teams were truly his favorite in the end. And when the family was blessed with his granddaughter Kinsley, meeting her "Pappy" truly made him "Happy".Michael was married to his loving wife, Donna for over 51 years and was very proud of the family they made together. He will be sorely missed.Michael is survived by wife Donna (Baker) Smith of New Cumberland; two sons, Michael (Nadine) Smith, Jr. of Elizabethtown and Jeremiah (Amanda) Smith of Stevenson, AL; two grandsons, Benjamin and Landon Smith, and a granddaughter, Kinsley Smith; two sisters, Henrietta Todd and Theresa (Chuck) McNelly; three brothers, Henry, Clement and Nick (Nicole) Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Smith.Visitation will be from 11am-12pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Parthemore Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30pm at Saint Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland with Fr. Jonathan P. Sawicki as celebrant. Burial will follow immediately at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in New Cumberland.In lieu of flowers, Michael’s memory may be honored by contributions to Saint Theresa Parish, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
