Michelle Annette Lauck, 59, of New Cumberland, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 15, 2025, while living among those she considered family in the city of Harrisburg.
A longtime New Cumberland resident, Michelle had a big personality and an even bigger heart. She worked at Fratelli’s Towne Tavern in New Cumberland as well as other local businesses for shorter stints here and there. A lifelong Christian, Michelle’s faith was a guiding light. She grew up attending Baughman Church of New Cumberland and, in recent years, found joy in exploring and worshiping at various churches in downtown Harrisburg.
In the fall of 2024, Michelle took up residence in Tent City, the homeless encampment near the PennDot property in Harrisburg. Despite facing her own challenges, she dedicated herself to helping others. Michelle volunteered tirelessly at the city’s food banks and regularly served meals on Tuesday nights behind the courthouse. Her kindness and generosity earned her the affectionate nickname “Mom,” a reflection of the warmth and care she extended to everyone she met. Her compassion wasn’t limited to people; she also deeply loved her rescue dog, Sasha.
Michelle faced her circumstances with resilience and grace. She often served as a spokesperson for the encampment, appearing on the news to advocate for her community. Her passing leaves a profound void in the lives of her family and the many friends she made in Harrisburg. While her presence will be deeply missed, those who knew her can find comfort in believing she was called to continue her work of love and kindness elsewhere.
Surviving Michelle are her mother and father, Gloria May Gochenaur and Donald Gochenaur of New Cumberland; siblings, Lorie Ann Stailey (Bill) of La Luz, NM, Mary Ann Boughter (Brian) of New Cumberland, Dawn Marie Gochenaur of Steelton, and Joseph William “Billy” Gochenaur (Tami) of Mechanicsburg; many nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Mary Lauck; and an uncle, Charles Lauck.
A memorial for Michelle will be held at 2PM on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Tent City Encampment located off of South Front Street near the PennDot building in Harrisburg.
