Mina Baxter, 90, of New Cumberland, passed away early Monday Morning on November 13, 2017 after suffering a severe stroke in early September.
Mina was born in Redling, Germany in 1927 to the late Maria and Ludwig Knon, and was the 5th child of 14 brothers and sisters. She met her life-long husband William Baxter (Deceased 1992) in Bertchesgarden, Germany in 1952, Eventually moving to the United States a few short years later in 1954 as a WWII survivor, a war bride, and also speaking very little English. Moving frequently with his career in the U.S. Army, they finally settled in New Cumberland where Mina worked as a waitress/hostess for 41 years at the former Sheraton and now the Clarion Inn, Limekiln Rd., New Cumberland. Retiring in 2011 at the age of 84.
Known to many as "Oma", she loved to spend her time shopping, cooking, watching Penn State Football and being the PA Alley Cats Softball #1 Fan. She enjoyed many other things but the one thing she loved the most was spending quality time with her family and their friends.
She is survived by her two children Jim Baxter and his wife Jeanne of Westford, MA and Heidy Weirich and her husband Rick of Etters, PA; her four grandchildren whom she loved so very much Brad, Katelyn, Allison Weirich, and Julia Baxter; her sister and best friend Heidy English of Montrose, CO and her daughter Mishell English also from CO; one brother, Rudi; and one sister Pauline both of Germany; and many surviving nieces/nephews and their families.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday November 30, 2017 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday December 1, 2017 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge St., New Cumberland. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp. following the Mass.
