MSgt (R) Garland Strickland

MSgt (R) Garland Strickland, 89, of New Cumberland died Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Viva Senior Living at Harrisburg.

Garland retired in 1974 from the United States Air Force after serving 20 years. After retirement, he owned a hog farm in California where he helped FFA and 4-H children by providing piglets for them to raise. Along with his wife Barbara, they traveled throughout the United States, doing their best to visit as many counties as possible while discovering their family’s genealogy. Garland loved to spend his days in his wood shop, creating many different things to include furniture, bowls, plates, candle holders, palm crosses, and the not so typical rocking animals such as pigs, cows, goats, and Clydesdales. He also enjoyed coin collecting.

He was born May 6, 1935, in Foster, OK to the late Frank and Nellie (Ivy) Strickland. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Strickland; son, Michael Phillip Strickland; and sister, Mamie DeMaris.

He is survived by his son, Steven R. Strickland and his wife, Christine, of New Cumberland; daughter, Deborah Brabec and her husband, Randy, of White Hills, AZ; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
