Nora G. Minter, 91, of Camp Hill, passed away on December 18, 2023 at Capital Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Harrisburg. She was the daughter of the late Nolan and Sarah (Denney) McDonald, born on November 10, 1932 in Park Hill, OK.
A graduate of Tahlequah High School in Oklahoma, she would relocate to Pennsylvania as a young woman. She was one of the first females in the area to attend auto mechanics school, becoming an asset to the two Gulf Stations her husband owned and operated in the Harrisburg area. Switching gears, Nora went on to graduate from Empire Beauty School, opening her own Salon in Harrisburg. After closing that shop, she worked at the Hair Doer’s Salon in Mechanicsburg well into her seventies. Nora also managed Camp Hill Mobile Park where she resided for 27 years and enjoyed many hours socializing on her front porch with her neighbors.
Nora was kind, caring and compassionate. She loved watching her kids and grandkids grow, and nothing brought her happiness like cooking a big meal for family and friends to enjoy. She had a soft spot for those in need and often made extra food to give away. Later, while residing at Ecumenical Retirement Community, she enjoyed making peanut butter sandwiches for the homeless in the Harrisburg area.
Nora was also described by those who knew her as “sassy and feisty.” She constantly kept her family, friends, and in recent years, doctors and nurses on their toes. She was one of a kind, and her authentic personality and kindness will be missed.
Nora was a woman of faith, most recently attending Fairview Brethren in Christ Church, New Cumberland.
Surviving are her children, Susan Shuler (Mickey) of Marysville and Alfred B. “Mike” Norris III of Etters; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Nora was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Joyce Barber; granddaughter, Kristin Jo Norris; a daughter-in-law, Sherry L. Norris; and all nine of her siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Interment will immediately follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
Please do not send flowers. Instead, donations to a worthy charity of your choice in Nora’s name are requested.
