Paul T. McCreary, 86, of New Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, in Carolyn’s House, a service of Hospice of Central PA, with his family at his side.
He was a Warehouse Manager with Bayard Sales, Harrisburg, a US Air Force veteran and a member of Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, Etters.
Paul was a family man and enjoyed the simple things in life. He was dedicated to his family. He was a hard worker and was always working on a project. He and Judy were “snowbirds” and spent 17 years wintering in Florida. To have Paul as a friend was a privilege. He was kind, generous, loyal and a friend for life. Paul loved playing in the dirt. He was an organic gardener, starting many of his plants from seed, making his own fertilizers and ensuring the entire ecosystem was supported in a natural and holistic way. Paul was also a woodworker for many years and enjoyed making furniture and other pieces out of all makes and shapes of wood. He later transitioned to wood carving. He was known for his random acts of kindness. Many people were recipients of a hand carved Santa, made from a spool or clothespin. This was a tradition that he carried on honoring his longtime friend and carving mentor.
Paul was born in New Cumberland, the son of the late Paul and Sylvia (Brumbaugh) McCreary. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane McCreary and Helen Rein and a brother Robert McCreary.
He is survived by his wife of more than 64 years, Judith (Krick) McCreary; children, Shaunna Orris of Harrisburg, and Jeffrey McCreary of Mt. Joy; his brother Clair McCreary of New Cumberland; and six grandchildren; William and Martha Rose McCreary, Jocelyn and Brandon Drugalice, Emily Orris and Nathan Orris.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 12 at 2:30 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:30 PM in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland with the Rev. Carl Ford Peterson officiating. A private burial and committal service will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fairview Twp. New Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Paul’s memory to Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank http://www.cpbb.org, Salem Shares Food Pantry (Facebook page) or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society https://www.lls.org/epa-de
